About Yarn and Story

Hi. I'm Lana Walker,
owner of Yarn and Story

I help small businesses and independent professionals attract more clients and opportunities through the power of story.

I dig in to discover your best stories, including those that reveal the why, how and what of your business.

Although low tech, stories act as a lever to do the heavy lifting of promoting yourself, your work or your mission. They can even move the world.

About the Name

The name Yarn and Story just bubbled up one day.

I don't knit, crochet or sew, but I'm a weaver of words and love hearing and telling stories.

I see life as story — a journey of smooth paths and hard treks, ups and downs, successes and failures. I believe our stories need to be heard and shared.

I believe in honesty and will never spin a yarn to deceive.

Every story I craft is spun with love, truth and integrity.

Curiosity is my middle name

I pepper friends and strangers alike with questions. Who, what, when, where, how, why? And then what happened?

That innate curiosity almost got me killed twice when I lived in Spain — once while running with the bulls and another while running with a notorious bad guy. Fortunately my curious bent has brought more goodness and adventure than I can simply recount here.

My professional background includes work in marketing, publishing, training, and technical communication. I've served in various industries as a writer and editor. Even co-published a martial arts newspaper, an ill-fated experience, which you can read about here.

If you prefer to do business with an award-winning communicator, I have you covered. I earned an Award of Excellence in the APEX Awards, "an annual competition for publishers, editors, writers and designers who create print, Web, electronic and social media."

I also earned recognition from the Society for Technical Communication (STC). I served as managing editor of the San Diego chapter's newsletter, which won an Award of Excellence in the Society's newsletter competition.

The best award for me, though, is watching my clients grow personally and professionally as our work together brings results.

Who I Love to Work With

I love helping people who are busy making our world a better place.

Clients come to me when they’re ready to make a bigger impact.

My mission is to bring their work and stories to light so even more people can benefit.

I hold a special interest in health and wellness. Many of my clients are in the helping professions, including coaches, therapists and counselors.

As a writer, designer and inventor's daughter, I'm also drawn to supporting creatives, innovators and trailblazers.

Think we'd be a good fit?
